Max Mara Celebrates The New Whitney

Friday night marked the grand opening of the new Whitney Museum of American Art sponsored by Max Mara with a private dinner party held on the museum’s top floor. Guests headed to the Meatpacking District to celebrate the Museum’s new location and to view its first exhibition, “America Is Hard to See”, featuring over 600 works by 400 artists including many pieces that have rarely been shown. Whitney Chief Curator, Donna De Salvo, Alice Pratt Brown Director Adam D. Weinbeg, and Whitney architect Renzo Piano greeted guests including Sarah Jessica Parker, Dakota Fanning, Solange Knowles, Betsy Johnson, and Princess Alexandra of Greece. Artists including Ross Bleckner, Carroll Dunham and Taryn Simon were also in attendance. Belvedere specialty cocktails and bubbly provided by Chandon were enjoyed while DJ sets spun by Harley Viera-Newton, St. Vincent and Zoe Kravitz raised the party scene in the museum’s new home. The Whitney Museum is located on at 99 Gansevoort Street and will open to the public May 1.
